Right to Roam Discussion Panel
Join us for an evening of discussion and debate as we talk about land rights, access and the 'right to roam.' Following the Land Reform Act in Scotland in 2003, the right to roam was granted, to much success and now having the freedom to explore in Scotland comes as naturally as breathing.
The Right to Roam group are campaigning for an extension of this freedom to England and Wales, arguing that "access to nature is essential to our physical and mental health and without a connection to the natural world we're less likely to care about it and unable to act to protect it. Yet we're excluded from much of what surrounds us. There's a right to roam in only 8% of England, much of it in remote areas of mountain, moor, heath and down, rather than the places the majority of us live."
We're delighted to be welcoming Lisa Schneidau from Dartmoor Nature Alliance (who will hosting the discussion), John Howell (owner of Harford Moor and Higher Piles), Mark Owen (owner of Challacombe Farm) and a representative from Right to Roam, for what is sure to be a lively l evening of discussion around this very current and relevant issue with a focus on Dartmoor.
Tickets for this event have been subsidised by the Dartmoor Preservation Association, with the aim of making this evening accessible to as many people as possible.
